I think I lucked out. Gave $1K for it in a sea of $1,500+ NV4500s without the t case.

Finished up valve seals and cleaned the heads. Going to push some oil through the whole system tomorrow to clean it out.

Put a lot of air to the cylinders and dried them out. I added 1qt of oil to a spray bottle and misted them via spark plug hole. Rotated everything and now it’s got a good coating on it.

Intake is at my place for cleaning and paint. Gotta do valve covers still. Oh and need to work a solid 12x5 this week. Works been going pretty bad. If my loans were paid off I’d probably bounce.

Set valve lash tonight. Need to get it sealed up by Friday PM so we can go to Jefferson Swap Meet. Thats our goal.

Struggling with the oil pump. I suspect I’m just stupid.

Once the pan is on we are going to push a ton of oil through the thing to clean it. When it’s in the truck I’ll run coolant passage cleaner through it and drain/refill.

Good progress! What’s wrong with the oil pump?
Ope ya saw the thread. To get it to clear the pan you’ve got to have it at a crazy angle. If it is flat it is too close to the bottom even with the gasket. I don’t want to risk sucking air or having it hum.

5qt should be here Thursday and my friend will tack weld the pickup to the pump. I pressed it in and then moved it some to get some better ideas on fitment.

Valve covers are done. I ended up using the covers off the ‘92 because they were in much better shape. The color is meh. I was going to do flat black but decided that I’d like to continue with the cast-blast. Also I actually painted these the right way. Light coats, then heavy. Very happy with how they turned out.

Anyone have a recommendation for a good air hammer? I can’t buy a Snap-On because it ultimately won’t be making me money and it’s hard to justify the price. IR still make a good product?

Everything I've used from IR recently has still been grade A. Not cheap though. My grandpa gave me a newer IR cut off tool they didn't need at work and holy f[ck is that thing sweet! It has reverse and variable speed and a rubber grip, oh man.

Edit: Cut off tool is the correct term, not die grinder

Those look good. I like that cast blast stuff

I don’t know about still, but my 15 year old IR is still the best I’ve used.
my old man’s IR 1/2” impact from ‘94 is still kicking ass to this day. His 3/8 is worn out but we still break it out once in a while. I like air tools, but I’ve got mostly electric at my place. Cast blast is nice. It lays down weird but levels out good.

Good to know!! I need a good die grinder. I was looking for an electric one but quickly realized those don’t have the balls like air.
