With a reman or stock
Original part. 86k
I was told wasn't until the 90s gm went under fire for the shifty steering feel that we were used too for decades
I owned a 98 back in the day, I never had “shifty” steering. Current 96 K1500 is also fine. Again, I personally don’t think they all came with loose, wandering steering. Worn out parts is my guess.

what did you finally do? Redhead? reman? Adjust? I've been wondering about Redhead. I'm on my 3rd reman from O'Reillys. After reading Schurkey reply I may try adjusting. I can see the slop in the gearbox by wiggling the shaft by hand and the pitman (new) doesn't move

go with the redhead, I got the NAPA one, and while better than my old one still has some slop in it.

Still ages better than my old original one.

So folks need opinions here.

So as y'all know I just adjusted the top adjustment, and the box is still loose. I've kind of just kept it the way it is for now, and I am going to pull the box back out to do the proper adjustment soon. I'm going to do it when I completely rebuild the front end with Mevotech TTX parts.

Question is, do y'all think the proper adjustment will still be doable even though I messed with just the top adjustment? Hoping i didn't wear the box down to a point where I can't get it in spec.

I mean worst comes to worst I can warranty the NAPA box and get another one. Then do the adjustments to that one and throw it in the truck.

According to Turn One, the Borgeson is not a serviceable part.
“Lamborghini of gear boxes”? Not so much.
Turn One recently responded to some of my questions and this was part of reply:
“The Borgeson box is a Chinese aftermarket box which cannot be serviced”. Also, in a response to @fancyTBI they told him the Borgeson uses “archaic valving”.
New Borgeson box seems to work well on my truck so far (last two weeks or so). That being said, I have redone all of the front suspension, the rag joint, the steering shaft etc (in a quest to fix busted stuff and stop leaking, not necessarily on a quest for super tight steering (but it has got pretty good along the way) YMMV. I cant see paying the Grand for a steering box but my truck is a hobby not a daily driver.

Turn 1 site says $400 for a rebuild, price can go up I’m sure though depending on condition of sent in part.
The Borgeson 800134 is currently $467 and has seen some sketchy reviews lately on this forum. It’s also a non serviceable part. So, I guess for me, when and if the time comes, I’d just have Turn 1 rebuild. Hopefully, yours holds out though and good call on the TTX parts. Almost 3 years on mine and still rock solid.

one thing to note and somebody did mention it in passing. A GOOD alignment is also very important. I had mine done by a national chain and they did a chit job. After I swapped my steering box to the Borgeson (keep wanting to put another n in there) I had an alignment done at an actual good shop and the thing is a laser now. Another thing i wanted to mention, AC in these trucks is never going to be like the AC in my 2020 benz, thats just a fact and most other systems are going to be in the same ballpark as the design is a big limiter. Will they be pretty damn good? yep. but How much $$$ do you want to spend chasing something that aint never gonna happen? set a budget and go from there.

IDK if it’s because I have a regular cab, but AC in mine is ice cold and never have it higher than 2nd lowest setting.

I have a regular cab too and just got it pretty cold (score) but just meant that these vehicles, while awesome in so many ways, are not, and will not be state of the art and we should enjoy them for what they are, deliciously unrefined.

Gonna bump this.

Genuinely don’t know what the best option is.

I want to do the proper adjustment but I’m worried I might’ve killed the current box I just put in from NAPA.

If I warranty it(I work there they’ll take it) I can start fresh again and do the adjustment before it even sees any fluid.
