I recently did some big damage to my big block and I am working on researching my possible options. I haven't even had to time break into the damage of my current motor; I will in sept. However, I am currently looking at my options should i decide to motor swap; Does anyone have any opinions about reman. motors and if anyone has any recommendations on what companies I should or should not consider. I plan to stick to the 454; I very briefly considered a crate engine but I have no desire to spend that much. reman seems like a good possible option but if not than I will consider other options if i need to go this route. what's your opinion?

When I did some research before going with the new Blue Print short block, I looked a rebuilding my 350. Pretty much all the high volume "reman" companies suck - one of the worst is ATK. I have no experience with Jasper but, they have the least amount of poor ratings. Is there a machine shop near by that can take care of rebuilding your short block and checking out your heads?

The thing with most reman's is that they want a certified shop to do the install for the warranty to be valid. Blueprint is one of the very few exceptions. Even Gm remanned engines can be a crapshoot.

Thanks for the information, I will lean towards finding someone to rebuild my motor. but I feel that is also a toss up when you don't know the reputations of the shops in the towns around me. but hey! that's what researching is all about

This is true; I much prefer the lakes though. I just got my wife and kids into paddle boarding and man is that good family time.

I agree, more people should paddle board = more trout for me. ;)
What do they get for a Blueprint short block anyway?

The thing with most reman's is that they want a certified shop to do the install for the warranty to be valid.
Adding to that, a lot of reman manufacturers (Jasper, for example) only reimburse up to a certain amount for warranty labor…somewhere around $80/hr unless you pay for a better warranty.
