There's a reason pretty much every real race car has a dry sump engine.

No high RPM, no aero, no sticky tires, no need a dry sump. There are tons of us running wet sumps in caged race cars. Spec Miata, the BMW crowd, our CMC group of Camaros and Mustangs, Spec Corvette, the list goes on.

If it started as a street car, it ain't a real car. IMO.

But if the rules allowed a dry sump, I would definitely run one. More power and reliablity.

Auto racing started when they built the second one, they were all street cars. Can you picture a bunch of pi$$ed off Model T's running around a race track? That had to be a sight!

Crank scrapers, windage trays and stove pipes in the lifter valley do a good job of keeping the oil down in the pan.

I remember seeing something like that on Engine Masters. They not only played with oil quantuty, they played with different styles of oil pans.
Not sure I've seen that one, this definitely wasn't them. A couple guys I have never seen before.

Idk, browser updated a few days and now tons of random car stuff everywhere when it opens. I was actually expecting to see a bunch of stuff on the Lefty Louie that took pot shots at Vice Pres. Trump.

We used to run just a pint of oil in the 5hp Briggs racing engines to reduce drag. Those were splash oiled and the oil created drag on the dipper, enough to tear the dipper off the rod cap and of course hold the motor back till it broke and the motor seized up. The early dippers were stamped and tempered steel that were held to the rod cap by the bolts. Then someone came out with a plastic dipper that was supposed to be stronger. Yeah, that cost me an engine the first time I tried one. Briggs came out with the Raptor line of racing parts that had a thinned dipper cast as part of the rod cap. No more oiling problems after that. It worked so well Briggs started putting them in all their horizontal engines.
Karts are very popular here
https://fishelmotorsports.com/ less than mile up the street, track is a few miles away. I've been in and out of there with friends and co workers. . Buys 10 engines at a time, tear them all down, measure and blueprint everything and maybe comes up with 2 or 3 competitive engines. Angle mill this or that. Dude's are nuts looking for a 1/2 ounce of power. Nascar serious. Painted quite a few Karts and painted quite a few sets of engine tins for P&P Speed.

And you could also say unless you're running for national points you're not a real racer anyway. SMH Lots of class racing just about getting out there with what you have. Nascar started with modified street cars. Jeebus.

You said that, not me. If it started out as transportation there's a lot of compromises you wouldn't make in race car. For one thing it probably has a wet sump.
