I found this on Marketplace. Youngster took it apart and got in over his head. Waiting to see casting marks. Said it's a 50,000 mile motor. Worth looking at for $200.00. Heads alone will sell for that much.

Emory cloth the worst crank journal until it's clean and then mic it. If you don't have a micrometer, use a dial caliper. You just need an assessment if it's trash. From the pics, it doesn't look as bad as many that I've seen.
As a teen my buddies and I had a vw pan we bombed around. It seized on us, so we pulled the jug and hit it with sandpaper. It actually ran quite a while till it did it again.

A usable 4-bolt main block for $200 is a good deal, even if disassembled. I paid $150 for a partially disassembled 2-bolt engine with water damage.
After I got this photo I passed. Found a 77,000 miler today. Going to check it out Saturday. I'll open the pan and check it out before it's installed. Replace intake gaskets, new plugs, cap and rotor. Any plug recommendations?
