I think there was a recent thread where
@AuroraGirl dug into some of this.

I researched this company a bit and lots of good to great reviews. Some forums discussing which was better -
Lee vs. Turn one. Many saying Lee was better. IDK, probably couldn’t go wrong with either. Lee also has different valving and choices, including 3 different turn ratios.
I have contacted lee via email for help on ID a pump for an Oldsmobile Aurora (2001, 3.5l V6 "shortstar") , and they were helpful and seemed confident so I do appreciate them and I think i will buy their ford C2 pump replacement which is a saginaw which has a custom housing that is able to fit in Fords which had a C2 pump. If you dont know what a C2 is, its a very very telling pump when a ford has one because all you hear is deafening whine when turning, sometimes even just at idle. They were very poor copycats of a saginaw. (The flow control valve can be used in both!) But made to ford standards! LOL.

I have an OBS ford and somedays it works fine and others i want to put in earplugs. Its leaky and original and they want a lot for their pump, rightfully so. They also do rebuilds and ive heard it to be qualityu, sometimes a bit of a wait and can be costly. Costly with quality should be expected in a sea of cardones.

I bought an Eaton Detroit True Trac, all new bearings and shims. It goes into the shop tomorrow for the rebuild. It’s going to run me around $2K.

Differential rebuild with timken bearings -$220
Eaton carrier - $798
Axle bearings/seals - $100
Labor ~ $1,000 estimate

Got the call that the truck is done. He said the axle shafts were very clean and the axle bearings were good. He left the pinion alone as it was tight. Backlash was good, though it was .001 out of spec. He said it was quiet down the road and while shifting from forward and reverse gears.

Should I be concerned about the gears being one one thousandths of an inch out of spec? He did not seem worried as it was a used gear set and was the same as it was prior to disassembly.

My limited experience agrees with that.

One of the few FSM I was following for one of the axles I did gave separate specs for new and used gear sets.

That does make sense. I need to check our FSMs when I get back.
If he will warranty his work an he says it's good then I'd roll with it....
That’s what I’m thinking. The owner’s son rebuilt it with the old man stepping in at times. I feel good about it.

Picked it up at 8am and have been cruising around. Feels great! No burnouts yet but I do feel it working.

Final cost breakdown:
Differential rebuild with timken bearings -$220
Eaton carrier - $798
Axle bearings/seals - $100
Gasket & lube - $57
Labor - $850
Total - $2,025

The shop was great to deal with. The owner’s son said he liked my truck and could tell that I take good care of it.
