Transmission has been getting worse. Like p!as me off while I'm driving worse. More so than normal, felt like a total POS last time I hit the track. So today I dropped the trans and tomorrow dropping it off for a rebuild. Oh, and it blew the front seal out of the AC compressor, so gonna tear that apart for a reseal too. Got about a month before we move, so what better time than now?

Sounds about right.

Dropped it off today, hope to have it back in a week or 2. Didn't find any "since I'm in there" stuff so trans can get slammed right back in. But I do need to split that AC compressor open to reseal.

Still waiting on the transmission, decided to crack the AC compressor open for a reseal. I removed it and gave it a spin. It didn't sound right and didn't feel right either, so I cracked it open and this is what I found.

Don't think a seal kit is gonna save me here. I need to get a compressor and figure out which orifice tube to put in after I flush the rest of the system. Hopefully a flush will be acceptable long term for the rest of the components.

After a little more homework it looks like I need to add a condenser to my shopping list. And seeing how my trans got opened up today, sooner is better than later to order parts. I'm getting a new pump, new steels, new intermediate band, new sprag (intermediate I think, Superior shift kit, new harness, reman converter, and basic rebuild kit. Apparently there are a couple of o-rings that will flatten out and cause some of my problems as well. The amount of not destroyed stuff has been the bigger surprise.

Picked up the transmission yesterday. None of the clutches were worn which is crazy. The intermediate band was smoked and left some discoloration on the drum, but the surface was untouched so we were able to reuse it. The intermediate sprag was a bit wallered out too so that got replaced as was the pump which wasn't cheap. Apparently every single o ring was flat as a pancake, accumulators and all. That was likely the root of most of my issues. I also had a Superior shift kit added because I did one in my 1500 and like the way it shifts.

Today was install day. My spotter guided me back to the lift.

Next was getting the trans on the stand. Easiest way I found was transfer it from one tailgate to the next, then lift truck to stand height.

Oil pan gasket from 2017 and rear main from 2020 still holding nicely.

Apparently spotting was exhausting work.

I got it pretty much all in, stopped at the heat shield which was broken and I was missing fasteners which were back at my hangar. So I headed home and zapped the old AC compressor back together to be used as an idler pulley.

And finally patched up the heat shield with some angle aluminum.

I ordered another 5 gallon jug of ATF off of Advance's site, will pick up tomorrow morning enroute to the truck. I also have all the rest of the missing bits to get this thing going again so hope to have it moving under its own power again by lunch. Then I can start rounding up AC parts to get that all squared away.

Got the trans buttoned up today and trailered the 1500 back to the hangar. It's nice that it moves under its own power at an idle now.

Sure is nice to have this thing driving again, but it's not in the rotation until the AC is fixed. I think I have good news there.

I see no breaks in the screen so I'll nab a condenser and line setup, get a flush, and wait for my AC Delco compressor to come in the mail on Wednesday if I'm not being lied to. Plan is to leave next Saturday and I'd rather not tow 1400 miles in August with the windows down.
