No shop will quote me or ballpark me over the phone for the rear end. They have to inspect it first. One shop said $70 for the inspection and the other said it could be 2 hours at $159 an hour. I don’t know how they inspect a rear end without opening it up. So then there will be a charge for a gasket and fluid on top of that. Who knows what fluid they’ll put in it.

I understand that they will need to inspect it to give an accurate quote.

Dash skin looks awesome!
Thank you! A lot of work to cover up one hairline crack. To prevent it from spreading further I used a small drill at the end of the crack and smeared some silicone RTV on it per Dash Skin’s instructions.

I watched a video on carrier replacement and holy cow. That is a job that I do not want to do without a lift or without taking the axle out. My dad, who is usually up for anything, even said that it would be a tough job for us trying to do it under the truck.

They won't give you a worse case, all new except the shafts ballpark?
Nope. I’m going to pickup a new gasket and another bottle of the correct gear oil and tell them to use that. If they want my business they can oblige. This shop seems to do modern/classic muscle cars and some imports like Porsches. Also has good reviews.

That's inconvenient. If they're not willing to oblige using the gasket and oil you provide, they shouldn't earn your business.

I agree. However… I’ve decided to go a different route. I need to research more. I’m thinking about going with a GMT800 14 FF with 10.5” ring gear.
-rear disc
-full float
-should have the gov bomb which I will inspect and have replaced if needed

I always wished this was a FF truck. I wish my ‘94 was too. I need to measure my axle and then find a matching 800 version.

I don't see how they can't give you a quote on a full rebuild if that's what your wanting. You don't need to inspect if you're replacing it all lol.

The GMT800 axle would be a worthwhile upgrade an you'll probably come out cheaper overall if you find one in good shape.

Gonna change your center cap situation on the rear, with a FF..
