My '78 is titled as a truck but I had to put progressive overload springs in the rear for it to do truck stuff. Those progressive coil springs work really well. They didn't jack the rear way up in the air and they have a nice ride.

Yes, and so is the PT Cruiser and Grand Caravan CV. They do that due to the interior cubic inches of available cargo room, and to boost CAFE numbers.
IIRC, late 60s Elcaminos were available with air shocks for hauling those extra bit of groceries.
Since they sit on a Chevelle chassis, they are a car, but with the open bed they are a light truck. Chevy included them in their truck lineup. A little something for everybody.

Post # 2 said its a Ute,,,um no, an El Camino is not a Ute, not nearly as pretty! This is my Ute, first car, and I am no puppy. Resides in FL. Rochester carby last tuned 30 odd years ago on leaded gas, has not had a screwdriver on it since, and runs like a charm. Paint is neigh on 35 years old, holding on acceptably well considering.

I call my new Maverick "My Ute". I have a Laguna S3 grille in need of an Elky. My grandparents had a 64 283/PG and my dad had a 67 327-4spd and a 78 Caballero. I could probably build a 40 Ford Ute with my excess parts, but don't have another project in me.
