Any idea why the cable would cause issues? Just wondering before I go drop more money on another cable.
It's probably not the cable. The baud rate for the 7747 is 160 baud. You need to set the COM port to that baud rate or it will not work. Later ECMs use 8192 but the earlier ones are 160.

I see. Easy enough to check with a different power source (battery pack etc.)
I think I'll rig up a 12vdc wall wart and see.... It's just that the thing will work for 30minutes sometimes..or 5...seems like it's maybe once it's warmed up but will look into it...tx

Is there a setting like that in ALDL Droid app? or do you know how would someone do that on the chromebook like the op is using? I know tunerpro has those types of windows...

The cable itself or the adapter?
Just looking real quick, that adapter looks like an Innova adapter for their scanners? Not sure if the only mention of it is for use with their scanners means anything?
Let us know what you come up with.
I love using ALDL Droid but my 1320 Electronics bluetooth adapter is losing connection and dimming indicators at times and I'm kinda suspect of the power supply section inside but idk... Tiny components in there and I don't think I'm up for that journey. Still investigating.....1320 went the way of the dodo apparently....
Yes it is a Innova adapter, the cable is rated for windows and what not, I probably will order the ALDL cable itself.

Just so I understand correctly - you are running ALDL Droid on your Chromebook OS? With a serial to USB Adaptor?
Yes, it is rated to work on Chromebook, I had an Innova adapter to work obd1 to serial so I bought a serial to USB so I can hook the adapter to my laptop.

It's missing the magic electronics box and 10k resistor switch that the cables that work have.
So would I need anything else special or would the ALDL specific cables previously quoted be able to work alone?

How would I do that?

Not going to work with Chrome OS.
There are many options to get it to work, but if you are not familiar with programming, flashing firmware, or willing to nix the Chrome OS and install Windows on the laptop - just not worth it. Get a win laptop so you can take advantage of better software and functionality.
