The little one comes from the ignition switch, and energizes the solenoid. That throws the Bendix gear drive into the flywheel/flexplate, and the battery cable(which is the big one) has made the starter motor turn. The unit grounds through the block, which is another reason why the starter motor needs to be properly mounted, with the correct bolts for the starter type, on a clean surface. Can anyone explain what each wire does on the starter?
Get the factory service manuals, download here on the forum, there free. Book one has all the knowledge you need. If you lookup starters in electrical section there is basic descriptions of starter operation. Wiring diagrams, connectors, ground locations, drawings, locations of wire routing. Can anyone explain what each wire does on the starter?

If I recall correctly the odd connector goes up to the block and plugs in by the oil panI am putting my truck back together and need some help.. I have the wiring diagram for the starter..
I'm not sure where the blue wire (with odd connector goes). It routed with the "purple" wire down to the starter.
The big "red (black from battery)" goes the big terminal on starter. The smaller "red (purple in wiring diagram) goes to terminal on outside of starter.
I believe I'm just missing my ground wires, which I might just jump the two and go to the frame. Unless there's another option...
Can someone help with the blue wire and if I'm correct with the others? You must be registered for see images attachYou must be registered for see images attachYou must be registered for see images attach
