The dome lights in my 1996 Chevy work and I understand they workin on a ground system but I don’t know what it could be the door switch’s have been changed the headlight controller has been changed and when I pull the door switch’s out they still stay on sometimes they will turn off without even moving the truck and then turn back on I’m really lost right now

Problem is that's for 88-95. 96 introduces a small module that controls the dome lighting in addition to those switches. The module keeps the lights on up to 25 seconds after closing a door or removing the key from the ignition (tho I think the latter was added in 98+). This module has a relay built in that is known to sometimes be a failure point. The module is stuffed up next to the steering column under the dash.

I bet if you put regular incandescent bulbs back in they will work as that should.
Thanks for the tip I will try the only thing I don’t understand is my dads 98 Tahoe has leds for all the dome lights and they work like there supposed to. One think I can probably think up is the door switches tho they’re cheap Amazon ones but idk
