97 K1500 front differential Case seal

Hey guys. I have a 1997 K1500 with the 5.7 Vortec. I'm rebuilding the front differential and have tried 2 different gaskets and neither of them seem ti be correct. For clarification this is the main case seal that mates the two half's of the differential together. Thanks

Where are you seeing that you need a gasket? I haven't done any work to 1500 diffs, but dont remember really seeing any gaskets along the seam when working on other stuff with them years ago.

GM used LOCTITE 518 or their own anaerobic equivalent on the 2500 diffs that I have tore apart, and its what I used. Works great.

I would also be a little suspicious to a gasket there in the first place. Because gaskets compress, etc. Which would effect bearing preload.

Check the service manual procedure for your differential. I've never done that job, but I too would have guessed Loctite 518 anaerobic sealant.

Do you have the 8.25 or the 9.25 unit? I'd expect 8.25 on a six-lug truck, but the 9.25 on an 8-lug.
