Hey, y’all! I’m trying to rebuild the front end on my ‘94 K1500 pickup and I’m having the hardest time finding lower control arms for this thing. I knew it would be hard but I didn’t know it’d be close to impossible. I’ve looked aftermarket and OEM. What are thoughts on pulling and maybe refurbishing from a yard? My only fear is that even the slightest wear and tear on used suspension parts would put me in another bind. Thanks much !

Howdy! First, what’s wrong with your pair? Are they rusted and delaminating?

Second, there is nothing wrong with a junkyard pair IF they are straight, cleaner than yours, and are easily obtained from a U-Pull (trucks in the air, not laying on the frame on the ground, can be safely pulled, etc.). I’d look for: minimal rust, remnants of a factory coating, and overall condition of the rest of the truck. Well cared for trucks don’t often end up in the yard. Obviously avoid anything that’s had front end collision. I would not have an issue using wrecking yard control arms if they meet my standards.

The reason you can’t find them is because they do not produce them new. Some people opt to use AWD Astro van control arms. Some have issues, others do not.

I've got a pair here just for that reason. 70 bones pulled for me from a yard that happened to have a few trucks when I was working oot. I knew they'd be nice when the guy told me he went as far as trying to get me a pair that still had the riveted ball joints intact/usable even...lol..
Maybe if you hint around that you're looking for the best set with the least amount of work, you can weed out the scary ones. Usually they'll shoot you straight on the phone and not waste your time.
Or visit the u pull obviously...

My driver side control arm is bent, and the other is tired for sure. Wouldn’t an AWD Astrovan control arm be much smaller? Bear with me, I’m not the most knowledgeable on these things! It’s kind of a learning experience.

I can't speak on the astro lower arms as I've never tried to use them. If none of your local boneyards have any in good shape I'd recommend trying eBay. I found a really nice set for 30.00 apiece shipped. I've often wondered why someone like Dorman doesn't make a replacement lower for these trucks.

Please search a thread I started a few years ago on the Astro Arms. I showed what I used and how it went. With pictures. If you have the bolt on style ball joints they are a direct replacement. The ball joint angles are that same. I have well over 100k miles on them now with zero issues. Including off roading in the Arizona desert
