Hey y’all, my 94 k1500s alternator crapped the bed this week. Both bearings went bye bye.

I’m a little broke so I’m going to get a junkyard replacement.

Question is, will an alternator from any 88-95 with a 5.7 work?

I have the 100 amp alternator, and rock auto shows the same part numbers for most of the years except 88.

Thanks!

Make sure the pulley has the correct number of ribs! I just got my replacement alternator for WCJr, and even though the alternator was marked "w/ AC", it has the non-AC four-rib pulley on it.

There was a larger (~140A?) alternator used in that period as well, you might see one of those at a junkyard. GM may have used different support brackets on that one, I.e., the extra support “rods” that mount from the ALT to other parts of the engine (exhaust manifold, etc), as compared to the 100A.

Just put another 100A back on and you’ll be fine.

^^^ good point

The pulleys can be swapped if necessary, but getting the correct one is a benefit / saves extra work.

Thank you everyone! I will swap over my pulley if I can’t find anything other than a 4 groove.

But hopefully I can find a newer looking 100amp there!
