1988 gmc k1500 305tbi 4 seasons R4 compressor running r 134a w 11 bladed dorman fan

The A/C has been losing freon over time. Had not been able to track down the leak so I broke down and purchased a freon leak detector. Took like 10 mins to track the leak to one of the seams on the compressor (4 seasons R4 unit i installed about 2 years ago). Have not been impressed with the performance on this A/C. Recently added the 11 bladed fan which has improved cooling performance at idle and when I can actually get the truck moving down the road it cools down to about 58F and then back to about 60F at idle. Still think it can do a lot better considering new evap, new condenser, etc in a standard cab and some of the successes that have been posted to the forum. Additional issue is that I have been trying to purchase the correct conversion kit for the charging ports so I can use the quick connect fittings. None of the ones I have tried have worked as they are too big for the ports on my truck (grr). Got out the measuring type deal equipment they are 5/16 24 according to my thread identifier.
2 questions:
1. Which compressor / orifice tube/ etc. combo should i purchase to get as much as i can from the A/C in the heat and humidity of south florida?
2. Anybody had a similar issue with the fitting conversion kit to the quick connect and if you have purchased a kit you were happy with, what was it?
Thanks in advance to the keepers of the GMC Lore :)

When I redid my 95 back in 19 i went with the 4 seasons kit. I have not had any issues with it. I can get 35-38 from the vent @ 90 degrees. anything over 90 i get about 42. For the conversion fittings I have no idea. The few that I have used i've never had problems with them not fitting.
