I have a 98 k2500 HD I'm planning on doing a full rebuild of this vehicle after I come back from AIT and get a reliable daily. I made a post about the 6.0 or 5.7 but I've come to the choice of a 5.7 since I don't have the most experience at all so should be a little less complicated.im looking for about 300-350 HP, and to have it reliable for a daily driver in the future. Im thinking of this crate https://shop.powertrainproducts.net/product/1996-2000-5/
I'm thinking of this intake as well https://revtecautoparts.com/volant-...o2JW-XeF69nfdS_lWmyvN-JW07DpoTBxoC1f8QAvD_BwE
-upgrading the spider injector to the better one with injectors at the tips
-0411 PCM
-brake booster(?)
I don't know all parts of the engine and it's not a drop in and run engine so I wanted to know if there's any upgrades I'd have to do. Plus the normal stuff to go on the block like the oil pan, water pump ect. Im estimating about 4k-5k in the engine and 2k in the transmission if needed (4l80e) need to find out if I need to upgrade my rear differential since I'm running 265 75 r16s. if it can be stock id like to keep it like that.

Your truck should have the 9.5" rear end that is plenty strong enough.
And for the transmission, does it currently work?

4-5k for 300-350hp is pretty expensive horsepower.

He has a 4L80 currently. Should be a hydroboost truck too. Probably a 10.5 rear.

He is wanting to start out with everything new or fresh for reliability reasons. The do it all and be done approach rather than constantly having to wrench on it.

Likely has vacuum brake booster, like mine did. Can and would definitely upgrade to hydroboost, especially since new GM hydroboost units are still available, and new GM vacuum brake boosters are not.

Will need to source brake pedal for hydroboost unit from salvage yard though (easiest).

Rear end is likely 9.5" semi-float (again, like mine). Full float would be on diesel or 7.4L.

I have a friend that has a 2500 8-lug 5.7L. Hydroboost and a 10.5" rear. Apparantly they came either way depending on what option boxes were checked. I was basing my statement off his truck.

Yes from what I've seen, 2500 could be optioned with HB and FF. 3500 got them standard.....

Very interesting. Would be curious to know (for future reference) what options made the factory include those on his truck. Maybe if he's ever in the mood, he can send you his RPO and you can post it here.

Just dove into GM Heritage. Looks like C6P which is the 8,600 lbs GVW option is what bought you a 10.5" full float in a 2500. The 10.5" rear axle is listed as a 6,000 lbs axle and part of the C6P GVW option. Almost all of the 8-lug 96-02 Vans also had the 10.5" even as a 2500 model. They even came in the 4.3L powered vans which was a manditory GT5/G80 combination. I am actually on the hunt for one to rob the 4.10 gear set and G80 carrier although I would likely just swap the whole rear end if I can find one. Most of the vans seemed to get a 3.73 open setup with the 350 or 454/8100 atleast. Very few of the larger engine options had 4.10s unless it was a dually and had 4.56s

There must be something aside from the C6P, as mine is C6P and does not have the full float. Interesting.

Rawhide the crew cab has a C6U designation, 9000+ gvw. I looked at both of the VIN number reports and the G80 was an option. My truck also has a 4L80E and 4.10s even though it is a 5.7. Gotta get those loads moving.... including 5500+# of truck empty.
