those heater connections are a pia on our trucks, not surprising your threads are beat up since someone before you probably had to fight it out when the factory quick connect went on them. I would try to salvage what you have first with one of the aforementioned approaches and if you are really concerned about cracking the manifold how about a nice soft brass fitting? Richard’s jb weld is no stranger around here (works!) and helicoils are easy to work with and come with a kit that gives you all you need to be successful.

What do you mean by that? Is there something I'm missing? AFAIK the only difference with the 3704 (as well as all TBI intakes) is the bolt angle (72° instead of 90°) on the center 2 bolts on each side - see red arrows.
