It’s shorter since the adapter is for a 2-wheel drive, not 4 - it lacks the right angle hence the need for clearance.
FWIW, have 2 RWD S10, 1 AWD Astro, all 3 have 4.3L V6, all 3 have OE EOC, All 3 have OE Vertical OFA, all 3 require a small diameter filter like PF52e.

Regarding the adapter, on which side was the bypass installed? The actual position of the bypass valve.
So at a junkyard I'd have to find an older 4 wheel drive without the oil cooler lines?? Is that correct? Do you by any chance have the OEM part number?
No - it doesn't have to be an older vehicle or 4WD. It can be 2WD - which is where you will most likely find the adapter you're looking for based on availability with newer cars and trucks (w/o tow package) . The PN you need is GM 3952301 which is discontinued from dealer. I believe ebay has a few NOS listed. GM PN 1929922 (supersedes 3952301 I believe) will also work. If you want to try another aftermarket give this place a call - they offer "with and without bypass valve" Oil Adapter. Below is a long list of vehicle that use the adaptor you're looking for.

Thanks for all of the input on this. Now i have another question. Could I take the original adapter with the oil cooler holes and make a loop with piping and just run the piping from the one hole to the other? The oil would not be going to the radiator, just looping out & back into the adapter.

I don't think you understand the difference between a K series OBS and the models you mentioned ^^^^. The oil filter adapter on a K series is angled - due to the front driveshaft (4WD). Remove the OEM adapter and install the aftermarket MFA350 - no angle/no clearance for the longer filter.

I understand the reason for the MFA350 adapter which requires the shorter filter. Could I take my original angled adapter with the holes for the oil cooler and loop a piece of piping from one hole to the other. The oil would flow through the piping but would not go to the radiator. Is this possible to do without any issues?

I’’m sure you do. My reply was to rebelyell. As for your question - In theory yes, but I would not recommend it since it would be held in place by the plastic snap fittings assuming you are fabricating the line with the OEM ends. If you convert to AN hose it’s a different story. Why not just replace the lines?

The reason I did not replace the lines were I ordered lines from Rock Auto a few years ago.The lines I received were incorrect. Sent them back and tried to find the right ones with no luck. Even took pictures of mine with measurements. Still no luck. That is when I decided to eliminate the lines. The snap fittings on the original setup was a piss poor design in my opinion. If I did use my old angled adapter & looped the lines I would use AN fittings. I was just wondering if anyone has done that and if it would work?

The reason for the incorrect parts may be related to the various coolers lines on these trucks. Take a pic of the sticker in your glove box that contains the RPO codes for your truck. Oil coolers are often listed by axle RPO’s like GT4, GU6 and KC4 (engine cooler). You could call the dealer parts dept and they can provide the exact pn. Don’t buy the lines until you speak or chat with a human and provide the information from your RPO sticker. Many sites have “chat” for communications and a phone number to order like Parts Geek. Unless your radiator is clogged I would stick with cooler lines. Not sure of your budget, but instead of making a AN line to loop (which would have a serious bend on it), you could fab AN lines to replace the hard lines. You will just need adapters for the rad side too.

You're mistaken; I certainly do Know the difference between mine and a K-model. OP is trying to avoid Melling piece because some folk have given bad review regarding a suspect bypass. I've never used the Melling piece because when I need a conventional adapter, either I have one or get one from JY.
In my neck of the woods, some of the yards have core motors laying about on ground, and you can see exactly which adapters are on it (if they haven't already been robbed). FWIW, besides pickups SUV & vans, there's lotsa other vehicles & even heavier trucks that have OF adapters.

If it were mine, and if the OE lines were leaking, and if I could not source OE lines, I'd find some hose end fittings to fit rad EOC and existing OF adapter; then have local hydraulic hose shop make up a pair of lines to fit. Lotsa parts stores, heavy truck shops, farm supply/heavy equipment shops can-will do it.
