As tittle says....
.....Cashed out clunker.....
....Local car lots are doing the cash for clunkers trade event.....
Who doesn't like a good ole clunker?
Have 2 15 yo boys that are working on getting their permits.
So far have scored this beautiful 92 Sierra .....And also a 96 .... it will be shared later on once I get this thing squared away and start on it.
Anyway this is what I walked up on at the car lot, asking price 1k.

My initial thoughts were well, basically what did you expect for that price. Keep looking...
But the ever so nice sales lady was there, keys in hand and my cohort (business partner) found something he was interested in... well....
Let's put the key in and see if it even starts.... as it's sitting there with the drivers window down.... apparently inoperable.
Hit the key... got the Ole wom wom womp.... click.
At this point, she's starting to walk to grab the key's for home slices truck.
So I had to ask, have a jump box?
She nodded and came back with both....
Popped the hood.... and had the classic Paul walker scene about it.
Like wow so much chrome... who hurt this poor truck like this....
Note that there is no fluids leaking, everything's full and absolutely nothing has the grimey dirt n grease build up.... I suppose I'm saying... she looked "fresh"
But good pressure washing or????
Who knows.
anywho..... jump box hooked, butt in drivers seat... hit the key....
Wom.... wom.... wom.... blow!
Blop blop blop....
I knew at this moment, it either ran as crapilly as it looked.... or we have a bump stick.

Miss, we're going to make the block.....
Pulled out and blasted off like a scalded dog.
But no shifty. 8^(
Ok sumns up man. Pulled over... kept trying the gears.... the selector doesn't move.
Finally feel nice and slow past neutral.... there it is... drive!
1st gear, second gear..... feels like we could go 100mph in scond.... wtf?
Mind you we are surrounded by 35mph signs....
F it! I'll take it for the puzzle factor if nothing else.
We both made offers on out crap piles, no one dared argue so we sign papers.
Drop the daily home and come back

There it is... waiting on me to come back.
Driver window still inoperable.... 6x8 speakers still sitting on the dash
No one stole anything with it sitting right up town... good!
Oh, I forgot to mention it has 96+ doors, probably seen in pics, no interior door handles sadly
Anywho.... start the 40 minute drive home,
Stopped and put 6 gallons gas in it.... as Gauge doesn't work.... big surprise I know.
To my surprise....it did make it....
And, even though you can barely hold it on the road at 60, 3rd gear in apparently the th350 transmission works. Although the speedometer doesn't do anything... nor does the temp gauge.

There it the next day at home

Puzzle is right! 92 truck with blue dash, gray 95-up door panels, red kick panels, what are probably Dodge seats, unknown console maybe a GMT800 with the front section missing? Actually maybe it's part of an Escalade/Denali console.

The TBI engine has Vortec accessory drive..

Yep, no way that TH350 is gonna operate your speedo without some intervention; it doesn't have the VSS needed to send the signal the DRAC module is expecting.

Hey, looks saveable and IMO any running/driving truck for $1K or less is a win.

All projects are fun!
Unless it has weird electrical issues.
That isn't fun.
My main experience is with classic Vw restoration, as far as knowledge.
I personally was a service tech for nissan up till about 4ish years ago.
But most of that is computer usage tbh.
And why aren't my DVD player or climate control in my seats working.... my car makes a weird noise when I.....XYZ.... got miserable!
Good catch on the vortec accessories.
Idk if the newer A/C compressor is compatible with the old hvac controls.... which aren't working and I haven't checked for power to them.
Help me think, high/low pressure swich and power to engage the clutch?
Should work.... been awhile!
To be determined.

I noticed that ac pump in the wrong spot immediately. It also has 94+ mirrors and a 94 gauge cluster.

'96-99 for me. I even have a Nissan-specific associates degree in auto repair (Nissan Pro-CAP). I got wise to the dealership model and jumped to a military contractor and then to civil service.

That truck looks like both a score and a POS. Just how I like 'em!

Way Cool Jr (build thread in my signature) has an interior assembled from ten other trucks and a hot engine with a "wrong" Vortec accessory drive.
