My vote goes for the Dynomax Ultraflo Welded 17221, a bit shorter that the 17223. It has that classic "bark" when the truck starts, along with that nice glasspack rumble. IMO a single 3" exhaust with this muffler just has that "OBS sound"

I've never been a fan of Flowmasters. Catchy name and fancy box is about all they have going for them.
I’ll have to look

I wanna say cherry bomb welded, but can't remember. I bought them from Advance Auto, so whatever they carry. The shop that did was impressed with the sound. I think it spooked em when I showed them the tips, and when put them on stuck out like foot n half. Like didn't know that they could be trimmed down...

I just pulled a hush thrush off of mine and put a borla proXS back on. All single 3” from the cat. It’s sounds great. No drone after I ran the tailpipe out the back. It droned a little with it coming out in front of the back tire.

5.7 vortec 3” borla pro xs

The thrush is deep but had a chuffing sound on acceleration I didn’t care for.

I had Borla's ProXS on my tundra. It was quiet, but had a nice note to it. Louder when stepped on it, but not crazy. I have a turbo on my Yukon, single 3" in/out, sounds good, not really loud, but dunno bout drone yet cause not on the road lol. But thinking of the ProXS for the 99, dont' want it too loud. Other truck will be loud lol...

Back in the day (early 80s) we had Blackjack coated headers and Walker glasspacks with duals on our '78 GMC Sierra shop truck. Otherwise stock 350/QJ with a Corvette open air cleaner. Sounded really good, I don't recall any drone. I do well remember the way the secondaries howled when you got on the skinny pedal though!
I have a pair of corvair turbo mufflers for Rawhide, but they're a bit shorter than the blown out flow masters that are on him now. Actually these are loud, but not much drone, and if the AC is on full blast and the radio is on, you don't notice it.
I say if you don't hear this truck coming, you aren't listening! And if you don't see it or hear it, get off yer dam phone.....
