I'm Awesome
I'll take a L31 with a cam over a GenV 5.3L any day of the week. In a heavy truck the 350 is going to take your money. You don't want to get into a cam war with a Gen V.

They are still a ~5K lbs truck. My sister owns a 2014 LTZ crew cab 4wd. It always has been a gutless wonder. My uncle has a L86 6.2 and it is a HUGE upgrade over the L83 5.3L. Even though numbers on paper suggest the L83 is as strong as a LQ9, drive both trucks and you will realize the 6.0L is stronger in every way. These trucks aren't RVs.
20 years ago the 6.0 vs 5.3 debate would have been 350 vs 327. Go for what fits your budget, they'll both move it along pretty good.
Build with matching components, and intended useage, that can include intake, cam, stall, gears.
More like 40 years ago.

Years ago people would offset stroke a 350 crankshaft using small journal stuff and build a 365. The 5.3L vs 6.0L is like comparing a 327 to a 365 except is use a smaller bore and the same stroke. When it comes to low-speed torque the 5.3L is more like a 307.20 years ago the 6.0 vs 5.3 debate would have been 350 vs 327. Go for what fits your budget, they'll both move it along pretty good.

Was just more talking to the OP, instead of trying to carry on.....but yeah lots of different combo's over the years. Another one is destroking a 400 with a 350 crank to 377, for the same reasons someone might choose a 5.3 over a 6.0. Buddy has a 283 I think it is with Ford 302 pistons.
Anyhow......these numbers between a 327 and 5.3 are just not even similar at all...... Its a good thing you chimed in on that one, they are just SOOOOO far off from each other.
