1998 fuel pump have a sealing o-ring ?

Hi everyone. Experienced Newbie here trying to get my truck back together. Bought a new tank and A Delphi Fuel pump # FG0086-11B1. Both the new tank and fuel pump came with an o-ring but i cant get it to push down to even come close to getting the lock ring installed. If i remove o-ring i can but if i blow into inlet of tank it leak air out around pump. Any ideas ?

Grease up the o ring. It will go together. Another set of hands will be helpful. You need the o ring !!!!
