I just completely tore down my steering column and it's in much better shape than it's ever been. I replaced the lower sleeve / shroud, aka the plastic tube that goes below the bowl that the PRND cable clips onto, with one I sourced from a junkyard as mine had broken all the little tabs that hold it on.
Too tell the truth, I was pretty psyched to find one in good condition at the junkyard.
Long story short, it lasted a couple of days. The 30 year old plastic is just too damn brittle.
My wiper switch just went out (glorious, huh) so I'm gonna hafta go back in. Any suggestions on how to fix that shroud so that it'll stay fixed?
I can't find any new or N.O.S. parts.
Anything Junkyard is just gonna be brittle and break again.
Only thing I can think of is to JB weld / epoxy it to the bowl assembly where it should normally clip on.
I seriously doubt I'm the first person to go down this road. Any thoughts or experiences?
