I just completely tore down my steering column and it's in much better shape than it's ever been. I replaced the lower sleeve / shroud, aka the plastic tube that goes below the bowl that the PRND cable clips onto, with one I sourced from a junkyard as mine had broken all the little tabs that hold it on.

Too tell the truth, I was pretty psyched to find one in good condition at the junkyard.
Long story short, it lasted a couple of days. The 30 year old plastic is just too damn brittle.

My wiper switch just went out (glorious, huh) so I'm gonna hafta go back in. Any suggestions on how to fix that shroud so that it'll stay fixed?

I can't find any new or N.O.S. parts.
Anything Junkyard is just gonna be brittle and break again.
Only thing I can think of is to JB weld / epoxy it to the bowl assembly where it should normally clip on.

I seriously doubt I'm the first person to go down this road. Any thoughts or experiences?

They list it, but don't have it available. Just the shorty version is available.

As far as I can tell, that's the same everywhere. It's like the supply got used up, and there's no fresh meat coming into the system.

Are you talking about the lower steering column bearing?

Parrt #72
It clips onto Part #71 (Bowl). It's mostly for pretty, but the little wire cable from the shift indicator wraps around it and clips onto it. So that as the shifter is pulled down, it rotates with the bowl and pulls the cable.

If that’s the piece, this is what you want, don’t bother with buying the same cheap plastic bearing.

The part I'm pointing at. You can see where it's fallen down from the bowl assembly by about 1/2"

Might be a good candidate for 3D printing. I'm having an issue with mine staying clipped in, but none of the tabs are broken. They just don't seem to stay latched in.

My P,R,N,OD,D,2,1 indicator on my 88 tilt column hasn't worked for 4 years. I couldn't find that housing anywhere and you probably won't find one now. As you found, that plastic gets brittle and won't hold up, even with super glue repairs. :(

I've been thinking about making/finding an indicator that works off the shift lever down below.
