Sorry to get off topic, but did you ever kill a g80 in a 9.5”? Mines acting funny but not dead yet and still locks up in dirt.
Yes, I killed mine. I do not know how I ruined it. My thought is: sticky tires and tight turns on pavement ate it up. But that’s a total shot in the dark. Here you can see the damage.

Nice kill! I’m scared to inspect mine. I just need to stop being a poor and buy a trutrac. It will change the entire driving dynamics of my tahoe. I feel like they really hate hard manual shifts and launches.

I’m sure they do! Especially because it’s not designed for that. Only really meant to help with moderately poor conditions.

Get the Truetrac, treat yourself. Yukon gear also sells a similar unit for much less. I know people here have used them.

It’s from an old square body 4x4.
So it won't fit without cutting/welding.

You'd ideally be looking for a 2WD GMT400 axle. Even a 4WD GMT400 axle is going to be the wrong width.

Your 10-bolt is a piece of crap. I'm somewhat surprised that it hasn't blown-up already. That IS their reputation. They shatter the OEM differential case--open or locker.

Most 10-bolts come with horrible 254mm leading-trailing shoe brakes. That includes the JB5 brake option code you say you have. They're the weakest, smallest rear drums installed on a GMT400. That truck is crying out for a 9.5" axle swap. You need the axle, the larger U-bolt plates, new U-bolts and nuts, and a conversion U-joint. In addition you'd want a rear cover gasket, fresh lube, and whatever axle/brake repairs might be needed.

If snow and ice performance is important, bigass tires are not the way to go.

I tried searching local wrecking yards for the 2wd axle and so far no one has it. Probably going in person would be better. My original plan was to upgrade the diff change the gears and do a disc brake swap cause my rear brakes are completely shot. Thats the main reason it’s sat so long. I’m not a fan of replacing drum brakes.
