1996 truck. Anyone remove the safety switch for the clutch pedal and mess with the wiring. There are 2 large wires (Purple and Yellow.) Then there is 2 small wires (purple and brown w/ chaser.) MY wiring diagrams dont show them all.

Did you ever figure out what the 16ga purple and yellow go to? My park brake failed, I started looking around under the dash, found purple and yellow harness not connected to anything and I can't figure out where it goes. My truck won't start. Now on to the clutch safety switch.

The 16 ga. purple wire and yellow wire installed into the same connector plug into the clutch safety switch. The 1989/1990 schematic (shown below) is for an automatic (hence "neutral safety switch" label), but the function is the same with a manual. EG: On an automatic trans truck the safety switch is closed when the trans is in neutral; on a manual trans truck the safety switch is closed when the clutch is fully depressed.

This arrangement may have changed in later years, but as long as your switch is at the firewall side of the clutch mount, and it is press-to-close, this schematic applies.

Hope this helps.

Ok, maybe I have the gauge wrong. I'm referring to a yellow and purple wire not connected to the safety switch. There are smaller other purple and yellow wires hooked up to my clutch safety switch.

This is something different. I don't have a picture of it yet. It's just hanging loosely and is not connected to anything.

Also, do you know if the wiring diagram is different for 92 k1500 manual trans? Mine is definitely wired differently

There are TWO switches!
The actual clutch safety switch had been torn apart by the previous owner and the yellow / purple wire harness was not plugged in securely.

The only harness I saw was the cruise control safety switch with two tiny brownish wires. Fortunately I had a second safety switch, plugged her into purple yellow and found what looks like could be the home for it. Guess what, she runs!

It makes a difference what diagrams you use. GM does make minor to major changes every year. And to be sure use the factory service manuals, available here for your year, as free download, links in the eng thread.
