TL;DR Update: Dodgey lives again!

This was supposed to be my week off but I was absolutely busy every day. Worked on my kid's stuff. Did my taxes (ugh). Did a little traveling. Finally got the old truck running today and drove it a little bit. Unfortunately, the steering makes it damned near impossible to drive. I am not sure if it gets in a bind or it's so heavy to turn past a certain point. So, I'll definitely be adding a power steering pump. Still, it was good to get it moving again.

The clutch and the brakes are good now at least.

The tech strapped to that round stock is worth more than my fleet.

I wanna say that switch and box was about $700. I don't remember the exact amount, but I think you are underestimating the value of your fleet.

The whole thing right now is a basket case and probably won't be fixed until this fall when the weather cools off at the earliest. Can't steer it, and no electrical system.

We’re the opposite in IL. Fall is the mad dash to get projects done before it gets too cold. My shop doesn’t have a south wall (old cattle barn) so it’s always a pain to work.

Seriously considering being mobile when I retire. Summers up North wandering around in an RV (maybe pulling an old truck behind it) and the rest of the year down in TX. Best of both worlds.

Got my new bat-tree installed, and cut-off wired in. Started right up on the first try. The gas in the tank is over a year old and is vented to atmosphere, so I'm expecting it to go off any day now. I'm going to empty the tank later this weekend before I end up with a tank full of wood stain.

I decided I was going to move it to a different spot in the driveway, but I was covered in sweat just from trying to move it for 5 minutes, so I left it in situ. It really needs power steering and I'm not a small guy at all, LOL. I have to redo the motor mounts to make that happen, so it's not happening soon. Maybe I will get some front runners in the meantime, should be easier to turn than the 265s up front.

So I was out doing my monthly startup of the old jalopys and let em run for a while thing, and the bat-tree is not charging or not charging efficiently. Started at 13.5 volts and just kept losing tenths every 5 minutes as it ran, but it was over 12.6 so it seems like it must be getting some juice from the alternator. I don't know. I will need to get out the multimeter next time.

The negative cable on the battery was warm as was the cut-off switch, so I'm thinking too much resistance. The engine is grounded to the frame, and the battery to the frame. Methinks, I need to run a cable directly to the battery.

I just bought a Volvo electric power steering pump on eBay. I decided it was going to be cheaper/easier than redoing motor mounts and getting a new accessory bracket system. I would also need to mod the GM pump to reduce the flow to work with the Ford steering rack.

Wow, that's a pretty cool rabbit hole.

For once it's nice to see someone come up with a trick piece for a price that's not stupid. Now I need to go hit up Pull-A-Part...

I don't see a lot of Volvos around here so decided it would be more expedient to just grab one off ebay.

My understanding is you don't even need the controller. Without the controller it's in "safe mode" and you get 75% of the maximum output or something like that, which is going to be a big difference compared to the nothing I have now. It's cheap enough to add later if I want to.
