I went on a service call in Livermore, Colorado spring of this year for work and seen this baby sitting outside.

The older man is retired and we bonded on our memories of trucking and our hauls here and around Colorado.

I told him I loved that old truck sitting outside as a crew cab OBS is hard to find. Several months later I was back at his home and offered him $1,000 for the truck as it has 350,000 on the 5.7L engine, but it started without hesitation and runs like a champ, and the reverse gear is out….

He hit me back with $1,200 and I picked it up that day.

This is the first picture I ever took of the truck, can’t wait to post pics of the progress I have made on it so far.

Going to remove the crooked grill guard on the front, old man hit a deer at 75mph…

Found out the plastic grill is cracked as well from the deer impact…

Right passenger mirror also hanging off from a horse bumping into it LOL

Interior is clean though so there’s that going for it.

Found a shop in a own that’ll do the transmission rebuild of the 4L80E for $3,200; 3 year 36,000 mile warranty.

Just ordered a new grill, headlights, right mirror, and door handles for the old paw paw classic.

Stay tuned..

The grill guard will NOT come off so I’m having the shop that is rebuilding the transmission to see if they can remove it.

Removed cracked grill and threw some shine on the KO2s the old man had put on there. Funny how there’s more money in the tires than I paid for the truck.

Headlights and new grill also came in the mail, kinda like the dark gray of the grill, might just leave it unpainted depending on how it looks.

Debating on removing these running boards but my 2 year old son uses them to climb up in the truck and he loves playing in there so I think I’ll keep them for memories sake.

Got the truck back from the performance shop in town! Transmission should take about 200 miles to get used to my driving.

Getting the grill and headlights installed now; so much of the plastic inside the truck has became brittle making this a challenge.

The performance shop had to cut the brackets that were holding the old grill guard in place.

FYI don’t throw away your old grill before you take the screw inserts out of the lower lights.

Looks familiar on the inside; my 97 CCLB has the same interior. For what I use it for most of the time, a short bed would be better, but when I need to haul stuff, I can definitely use all eight feet. Mine is also a retired farm truck,, I've had it almost two years now and it still has under 139,000 miles on it. That includes three trips to Austin and back, and two trips north of Houston.
You got a great deal on this truck, even with the transmission issue, and now that's sorted out. Wish we had a good trans shop in Houston like that.... welcome to the forum, from Houston, Texas.

There might be a good reason he had a grill guard. Deer are a serious problem around here. You gotta slow down at night.
Yup I figured that grandpa hit something with Rawhide, to tweak the bumper and twist the brush guard a bit. Kinda gives the truck a snarl, makes it more intimidating to pull out in front of.... which people try to do a LOT in Houston. There can be nobody behind you for half a mile, but they gotta get in front of you....
