Awesome. Just out of curiosity, what exactly does the other EVAP connection do? (I believe it is called the vent valve), and why isn't it needed?
Because that is just for added emissions controls on newer vehicles. I did add one to my 97 van but I also added the fuel pressure sensor into the sending unit long ago. I just got tired of the fuel smell in hot weather when parked.

So just to clarify: I can delete all the EVAP connections besides the purge solenoid, and just run a line from the LS purge solenoid to the OBS canister, and it will work? But what about that fuel smell when parked in hot weather you speak of, would I run into that?

You can delete all the other connections or extend them to a pressure sensor and a 98+ OBS canister with the vent valve on it. The purge will work either way. It will smell any worse that in smells currently. When mine was parked in the shop with 20+ gallons of gas it would smell of fuel. The vent valve eliminated it. If you never park in an enclosed building you may never notice it.

Just to clarify, did you mean that it will or won't smell worse than it does with the current 96 5.7 EVAP system? As it is, I don't smell gas.

Could I swap to the 98+ vent valve canister without adding the pressure sensor?

It will not smell worse than it does now. The vent valve does need the pressure sensor to work correctly.

Ok great. Looking at the 96/97 pinouts on LT1swap.com, I also noticed that those PCMs have a pin for "EVAP canister purge diagnostic vacuum switch signal", in addition to the EVAP purge solenoid control. What does that first one with the really long name do? Maybe I'm wrong, but is this the 96/97 version of a vent valve, and the reason I'm not smelling gas?

If I have the purge solenoid in place, which is normally closed but will open at certain times, i wouldn't think that I'd have issues with vacuum in the tank.

Does anyone know what the "EVAP canister purge diagnostic vacuum switch signal" does in 96/97 PCMs? Is this their version of the vent valve? I don't think it's the purge solenoid cause there's a separate pin for that.

It is mearly for the early style of evap emissions leak detection and purge detection.
