it's from a family friend's father who passed away. theyre getting a new truck so since I worked on keeping it running, I am buying it for 1000. what do you think? it needs paint and some light rust repair. I am turning it into something nice for the freeway and towing. it has 202k miles and a handful of issues that can be fixed in a weekend.

Sounds like a great project on a good foundation. What do you plan on towing with it?
my family is going to buy a trailer big enough for 6 people and I doubt our 3.0 duramax suburban is up for that. also I will probably use it to haul a 5th wheel toy hauler and my mazda protege to trade school. it already has a trailer brake controller and 4.10 gears

I tow a 5500 lb (dry weight) camping trailer with our K2500 Suburban with 4.10 gears, which it seems to handle well. I just started towing last year, so I'm still in the learning phase. Fortunately there's a wealth of information on the subject in the Towing forum.

I second @RichLo 's suggestion to start a build thread on this project. There are some very knowledgeable, helpful folks on here who would enjoy following your progress, and cheering you on and/or helping you out with sage advice, as needed.

Thanks for posting a picture of your truck. Feel free to post more as you go. We like pictures.

our suburban is a 2022 and I don't trust the 10 speeds as much as the 4l80e. also dont trust my parents to know how to tow anything.
