FWIW, Do Not bang or whack on case (NEVER) of modern Remy Vortec OE mini starters --- in lieu of field coils & pole shoes they have Permanent Magnets. Those magnets are made of a very brittle ceramic extrusion and a sharp blow to the Remy (or other permanent magnet starter) can crack magnet(s); destroying it. T shirt.
