Redneck refresh 2000 K3500 CCLB 7.4/454

Finally got to work on my engine to do a little refresh work. I was having the issue in the post below. Weird valvetrain thing. Also, the rings were worn out (bad leak-down)

2000 K3500 454/7.4 runs rough; sucks and blows

I have a weird issue with the 454 in my 2000 GMC K3500. I've been racking my brain for a long time. When I watch it idle at the tail pipes it will suck a rag in and out on the right bank, but not the left bank (left seems to run fine). It acts just like what's happening in the video linked...

I need a little help picking a cam. I'm planning on replacing pretty much all of the valvetrain. I have a 2000 K3500 CCLB 7.4/454 with 200k miles and there's and odd misfire that I can only explain by something funky going on in the valvetrain...

Ended up pulling the engine to do the valvetrain upgrade, and hone cylinders with new rings, and new bearings.

Pulled the core support. A whole lot easier than trying get this behemoth over with a cherry picker.

This sucker actually needed some counterweight on the stand.

I didn't get any pictures of the process, but did a little DIY polish on the crank journals.

Did a bunch of clean up and got it assembled. I plastigaged all the bearings and all the clearances were as good as new. Checked ring gaps, a-ok.
