Hello, looking for rear shocks and see many options that say (except 8600 GVWR) and some that don't specify weight either way. Measurement also varies 1/2" to 1" between manufacturers. Will be towing about 500# under max of 7,500. Thanks.

I'm running Bilstein 4600s on my K2500; love em. I pull my equipment trailer and used to pull a camper with no problems, although I do have Firestone Ride-Rites on my truck as well.
I just assumed they would work since they were listed as fitting trucks with the C6P RPO code. Been running them for 4 years with no issues.

Have the 8-lug 6CP. Just don't see how a weight rating matters on a part that does not support weight?

Said part for 8600GVR has to dampen that heavier weight as it oscillates upon stiffer springs (which carry that weight)

- Greater damping force is required for ride control
- More energy must be dissipated as heat in the shock

Bilstein will sell you the same front shock for a 1500 as they will a 3500, at least in 4wd form. Out back 1500 and 2500 share a shock and only the 3500 calls for something heavier. YMMV with other brands.

I’m Having the same issue. I ordered AC Delcos PN 51922 from rock auto for my 1995 k2500 8600 gvwr utility body. To my surprise when I went to install them last night the bolt hole spacing on the top mounts too narrow.

The current shocks on the truck appear to be Monroe 58600 ST’S but rock auto lists the Monroe 58600’s on their website as “except 8600 gvwr”.

I’m kind of at a loss on what to buy, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Update: Went with Monroe MA764 air shocks to have a leveling capability. They were listed as any except 8600#GVW. Installed without issue and handled full bed of PT lumber (est. 1,800#), also took out about 2" of squat with 900# of tongue weight with car trailer. So far so good.
