You might also want to verify your battery is in good working order. I've seen borderline batteries do some funky stuff with electrical gauges.

Does the fuel gauge ever move, & what side is it stationary on (i.e. F or E)?

It always ends up pointing at E.
Typically, a short period after start up it will move (briefly) to somewhere between quarter and half full on the scale then will return to E and stay there.

My 454 seems to make my gas gauge point to "E" most of the time too. LOL
