It's been a bit of a craze here in the UK. Where I live on an A-road (60mph speed limit) they accelerate only as much as required to be able to lift off the throttle and have it banging like a ********* door in a gale. Call that driving? I get the feeling they're actually scared to stay on the throttle pedal.

Never got why the crackle exhaust was a fad. In the Harley world, an un-tuned EFI bike will crackle with straight pipes on decel, sounds like sht. A tuned bike will rap almost as loud as running WOT on decel, sounds badas!.

Yep. Recently watched a tuned BMW drive by with excessive pops and bangs. Sounded like hot garbage. I'd be embarrassed to drive a car that sounded like that.

I remember straight-piping my first Harley, an '82 FLH. It came with the factory "dual" setup where there was a crossover pipe, and someone had clearanced it with a hammer to make room for an aftermarket kicker on the 4 speed. I got the Paughco true dual head pipe setup and finished it out with straight fishtails. It sounded like ass, crackling and popping on decel, and had a flat spot off idle, too.

I got the most minimal baffles Paughco had to offer, and stuck one in each fishtail at the front end. No more crackles or pops, got my low end throttle response back. Happy camper.

94 gmc 1500 5.7. Trying to make the exhaust pop and all that.
Deliberately annoying people with exhaust noise is how politicians get pressured into authoring restrictive legislation that hurts the automotive hobby.

Not to mention that it's impolite.

I generally agree with this. Nothing worse that some a*nus (why is that word censored, its literally a body part) winding out his straight piped Harley at 2 am. My Civic is loud at WOT, but in town I'm light on the throttle. I also rarely drive it.

That said, what has been most detrimental to the automotive hobby is the leftist belief that we can control the weather. I'm sure we're all in agreement on clean air, but taken too far is how you get unreasonable CAFE standards which can only be met with EVs as a large majority of the fleet. And that completely ignores the fact that our power grid is largely fossil fuel based (the same leftists forced the shut down of nuclear power), the environmental impact of rare earth mining, done using practically slave labor in sub saharan Africa, and the eventual need for battery recycling.

I have nothing agaisnt EVs or people who choose to own them. I am only complaining agaisnt government mandates and subsidies. Progress should be driven by the free market, not government force.
