Wuhan war whistle FTW. You already have the driveline for it. That's my final answer.

But admittedly a massive undertaking for a 17yo without a background in this stuff.
Huh?? I’ve never heard that before in my life lmao. But also wait, so you’re saying it’s a good truck for a drag race? That’s conflicting with what everyone else has been saying

After reading the replies we can scratch drag truck off the list. But if the pushrods aren’t going to really affect it’s power, could I build the engine to make good power? Are the only real differences between the vortec and ls the cylinder heads? Even though it was meant to be a work truck, it’s in such good condition that if it couldn’t be a drag truck I’d rather just completely fix it up, make it faster and more fun to drive, and kinda just turn it into a hot rod if I’m being honest.
Imo, the single biggest seat of the pants improvement is the handling and putting the beefiest front and rear sway bars on, that you can find. Get the solid bars and not the hollow ones. With that truck, you are not worried about the extra weight. Also, get great brakes on it. You can go faster but the steering and suspension has to handle it and you gotta stop the damn thing.

It's still a terrible platform to race with, but a turbo would add enough power to make it pretty quick as is. You can tow with boost too.

I’ve thought about supercharging it, but that’s a late stage upgrade. I don’t think I’d ever put a turbo on it. They seem to have more downsides than a supercharger, the only real advantage that sticks out to me is it’s not mechanically driven.

The advantage with a supercharger is you get almost instant response where, you have to wait for a Turbo to spool up.

Wuhan war whistle FTW
That's a good one! :anitoof:

It's funny how turbo is associated with Japan( and by some names here China for some unknown reason-but funny af)and yet it was invented by Swiss guy, used widely in american war planes of ww2 and commercially in cars first in Corvair and Jetfire. But I guess it was popularised by Japanese brands.

You can build whatever you want! It’s your truck. If you have the money there are plenty of builders who will help you build what’s best for a particular truck so it’s so it’s safe, fast, and fun. Full Build OBS Racie Truck
