I sent an email to Powell Machine Company to see if they can set me up with appropriate valve train components (springs, seals, locks, spacers, rockers.
I'd trust this guy's knowledge..

I thought that this was interesting.
On the head that I intend to use, the retainer caps are uniform. On the existing heads, the exhaust valve retainers look to be missing a cap.
It appears that this is an indicator of the presence of rotators on the exhaust valves (missing cap).

Haven’t removed the heads yet, but the block has 040 stamped on it. Could be that when the engine was rebuilt it was bored 40 over.

From the factory, 810s had rotators on both intake and exhaust valves. 191s only had them on exhaust like many other SBC factory heads.

Removed heads.
#5 on the bottom row is the cylinder that was misfiring.
Cylinders look really dirty.

Head Gasket Question:

This lower end on the engine that I am using is bored .040 over. The pistons are dished (I’m guessing that that is the correct term). I know nothing else about this engine. I am concerned about using the stock head gaskets with this new cam.

1. Can I bolt on one of the heads with the new gasket and do a compression test to see whether or not these gaskets will be ok?
2. What compression range should I be looking for as being satisfactory.?

This truck will be used as a daily driver/utility vehicle.

If you have the following info I can plug it into my spreadsheet and give you the static and dynamic compression ratio.

How much has the block been decked? If you don't know, how deep in the hole/out of the hole are the pistons at TDC?
Stroke (stock is 3.480)
Connecting rod length (stock is 5.700)
Piston compression height
Piston dish/dome size in cc
Gasket thickness
Head combustion chamber in cc
Cam intake centerline (ICL)
Cam advertised duration
Cam lobe separation angle
