Hey everyone, this is my first post so take it easy if I make a mistake somewhere… but down to the issue.

I got my OBS a while back and it had no door chime/key chime module in it so I put one in from a Camaro of the same era from eBay.

the door chime, key chime and rapid chime for the lights being left on works, but no slow chime for the key being turned to the ON position… so I asked around and others said the one I got from eBay could be from a manual transmission, which would make sense since they don’t have a PARK gear.

so I got one myself from a junkyard since I happened to see one and this one does the same thing despite having been in an automatic Camaro…

I’ve torn apart the steering column and removed the key cylinder multiple times for various part replacements since I’ve owned the truck so perhaps I broke something that tells the chime to start?

So I ask you fellows of this forum for any ideas since I’m out of them…

Truck is a 1995 Chevrolet K1500 5.7L 350 with a 4L60E automatic.

Welcome,

I could be wrong here as I haven't messed around too much with 95-up; my preference is the previous interior style. However, I don't think these trucks differentiate between "key in ignition" and "key on" for the warning chime, since the original truck's chime unit is a single tone regardless of why it's on. The Camaro module may not work as expected when used in the truck.

Thanks for the reply. personally I also prefer the door panels of the previous style. But regarding the chime… there’s a YT video about the original buzzer - Camaro chime swap and his replacement had the slow key chime, so I expected mine to be the same as they’re both automatic and the same year… I’ve worked on one of my other trucks that isn’t an OBS and it had a little wire attached to the key cylinder that activates the key chime but my 95 doesn’t have anything like that attached to the cylinder, is it possible it was deleted by a prior owner? Thanks again.

Like @someotherguy , my only experience is with pre 95s, other than a 98 rclb i had 30 yrs ago in high school. But fwiw i have never heard of a gmt400 chime being acitive while key “on”. The only chime our trucks get is door open, (while key in ignition) , seatbelt, and lights on .

Actually no, the one I bought from was this guy I believe… he even has a video in the listing with him testing the different chimes.
