Ask them if you can commit to a particular engine and transmission, pay for it and then I can pull it out on my days off? I can be available next Thursday, Friday or Monday. A week away from now. In fact I plan to be there Thurs or Friday to get the rear axle parts I need for the Yukon as well as one “hood bolt”. My only stipulation would be that you remove the wiring and computer ahead of time so that I don’t need to spend an hour or two dicking around with that.

Yes the guys who run the front end loaders that they use to pull the engines only work week days. It’s a pain but it is what it is. Hence im sure that’s the only reason the 6.0s are still there. Otherwise the weekend warriors would have grabbed them.
That's a hell of an offer there bud!!!
I may just look into that.

We may be getting a "rain day" here in the next few days, and my dad is actually home this week. Wouldn't be ideal, but I'm sure the yard would be pretty quiet. And ya.... definitely the reason they are still there.

But my 'future ex son-in-law " pointed out something interesting about them not having machines on the weekend.
They make way more money parting them out piece by piece. So they actually would lose money yanking the full motor, and how many people are willing to take an entire day off work. Interesting theory.

Had some crap go down at work today or I would have made a few phone calls to a few Kijiji places and the one you sent. Hopefully tomorrow is a bit quieter and I can get some office time.
But you know how that goes! Lol

I was talking with one of the loader operator guys and he said that one of the perks of his job is they allow him to pluck a few engines after hours that they can sell or use in projects. I’m sure they aren’t paid big money to run the machines, but hey no drug tests required lol!

I always used to joke “she looks like my future x girlfriend when window shopping”!

Remember friends don’t let friends do 4.8 or 5.3 swaps without turbos. Go big or go home, you will love the cubic torque with a good cam. The larger the engine the better the street manners with a given cam.

Find some $5 dowels to hold the lifters up and yank that puppy out. It’s a 100 Hp upgrade. Then remove the spark plugs and feed in some thin rope and put each piston to the top. Then add good valvesprings without dropping the valves or messing around with using air to hold up the valves. The cam swap is way easier when the emgine is out obviously. Do it once.

Ya, I joke about him like that all the time, he's really a good guy actually. Puts up with the daughter!!! Lol
I'm definitely holding out for a 6.0.
Actually, was looking at the Trucknorris "NSR" cam. No springs required. According to the bit of research I've done, it's only a few HP less, without all the hassle of changing springs.

I did know the dowl trick, forgot about the rope trick though.

I would imagine a perk of the loader job would be a few "fall off the truck" from time to time.

I know it’s apples to oranges but racers replace the springs after a certain number of passes. If a trucks been babied the 20 year old springs may be ok. If I owned it, it’s due for springs lol

Yes beware of the truck Norris cam though. I know it’s a selling point for many people to avoid the hassle of springs but over 4000 RPM the old stockers will be losing partial control of the valves. It’s hit or miss depending on how worn out the valve springs are however just a FYI. Some will say it’s fine with stock 300,000 km springs, but the valves are floating even if they don’t know it.

A 16 year old kid on my block did the truck Norris level 2 truck cam and I helped him get it installed but I told him to replace the valvesprings too. He said no I don’t have to… Then he tried to run it for a few weeks on the stock tune but ended up getting it towed to the chassis dyno tuner after getting stranded twice. Then pays to have it tuned, low HP numbers. a few weeks later he said “it doesn’t have power over 4000 and it’s low on HP”. I said change the valvesprings. He’s now doing burnouts after paying fir a second dyno tune because he wouldn’t do valvesprings. Just saying lol

*** Edit he used the level 2 truck cam I forgot they had different versions*** you should be fine without springs with the cam you are looking at.

Funny.....I've been watching the videos of him swapping the 8.1 in, got to where it was up and running. Haven't seen the turbo install yet.

And in response to your message.....your a maniac!!!! That was a great story. Lucky on both parts. You are the dictionary version of "easier to beg for forgiveness rather than ask for permission" lol
