Remove steel NEEDLE pilot bearing

Split it with a small, sharp cold chisel.

OR

Reach inside it with wire welder or stick. Strike an arc and lay a little bead on it. Don't weld it to crank !
When it cools off, it WILL shrink and cooperate.

I chucked a junky extension in a drill and ground the end till it fit tight in the bushing.

Like @movietvet said, hit it hard!
I know this is a bit late, But why are you worried about a needle bearing in a crank that has an automatic transmission flex plate on it?

I didn’t think the nub of the torque converter would have fit in there. I didn’t want to stab the engine and verify whether it would or not. That wasn’t my original crank, or if it was the machine shop shoved a used bushing in it for no reason.

I've had luck using the pilot bushing remover to ruin the needle bearing, then use it to grab the shoulder that becomes available with the guts out of the way.
