Hey guys! Got a 97 k1500 Stepside with the 5.7 vortec. Having intermittent issues with the diffs locking up(mostly front, but rear does as well). Haven’t torn anything apart, but wondering if the issue could possibly be electrical and not just mechanical? I’ve been having lots of issues figuring this truck out, fix one thing; another goes.

With front lock g up sounds more like t-case issues. If electric issues, the front diff would just “lock in” meaning e facing front diff. But even if that does engage, it will still function ok….

It does function; the rear will drag the tire and then release depending on speed( low speed or coming from a stop) and that’s even on a no turn. Front does so more often from at speed. It does have electric shift but no 4wd lights on.

I feel the front diff lock up more as your moving(feel the inertia then let’s off)

You're gonna want to pull the rear brake drums. The craptastic 254mm leading/trailing junk will commonly groove themselves into the backing plate.
