Would you be doing this instead of the LS or just as something to get you more power until the LS conversion?

I say this: get out and drive it. Build the motor you want on a stand and just enjoy your truck. You’ve waited so long man.

Edit for clarity: I just don’t wanna see this thing sit around anymore lolol. I want you to enjoy your hard work!
Lol....I hear ya!!!
It was just a blip in the brain about the Vortec.

Buddy is penciled in for the 27th to come with me to hunt for something I can pull.
Wether it's a 5.3, 6.0 or hell maybe a 8.1....something will hopefully be sitting in the garage floor. Lol

I won't be doing any swapping until the winter.
I'm gonna drive it as much as I can this year until the snow flies. Been tooooooo long since I've been able to turn the key and just go.

And I won't pull what I have, until I have everything needed to start it up and drive out of the garage once the snow melts.

But I also want to get something in the garage, before I piss all my budget on a few hundred here, a few hundred there.
It's a lot easier to come up with a few hundred every once and a while VS a grand or two.

Bought a few things after work today. I have to work tomorrow, so hopefully Sunday I can try and get a start on wet sanding the hood, then trying not to destroy it with this stuff!!! Lol

It's variable speed and dual action, so I would hope I can get it done without too much drama.

But I have to do an oil change on women's Journey before oldest takes it on a road trip with the future ex son-in-law and grandson. So I probably won't get as much time as I'd like to work on it. Is what it is.

This is what I've resorted to at work!!!!
A LOT of "haters" on site, they are just jealous!!! Lol
But dang it....it actually works!!!!
My partner bought two off of Mr Cokrocket for $14....worth it. And a hell of a conversation starter!!!

Edit.....added the heat as another reason I may not get much done.

Certainly do.
Can go from +40 to -40 in a matter of a 3-4 months. It's pretty wild. Builds character!!! Lol

I think I can "tolerate" the heat waves better than the cold snaps though. A LOT of bad stuff happens once we get close to -40, especially if it lasts for more than a few days.

Here's my theory about weather (obviously Nnt, then mobility becomes an issue). But there is only so much you can take off and still be seen in public!
When it was in the low 20s and upper teens back in January, the day I did go into work, I had on leggings and sweat pants under my cargo pants. And three layers up top, under my jacket....and remember we wear polyester apron, cap and hairnet! But even on warm days like today, it's cold in the deli and bakery departments....

Layers in the winter for sure. But unfortunately at work it's full covered all the time. Long sleeves, pants etc.....but I think the vests are the worse part. You don't get the evaporated cooling effect if you are wearing them.

Spent about three hours on the hood this morning.
I'd say I got about 75% of the orange peel out. I didn't wanna go too much farther with the wet sanding as I only had a 6" block, cuz I'm an idiot and didn't order any Durablocks yet. And didn't wanna go through the clear down to the blue.
Oh well, better than it was for sure.

Then I used my new DA thingy and did three full "cuts" on each section I worked. Like put the juice on, worked it, wiped it off a did it twice again. Hopefully that makes sense.

Then did the polish thing twice.

Thought I had wax at home....nope. That was the bottle that fell off the shelf and exploded a few weeks ago. All over the floor and my wheely ramps. A disaster....a stinky one at that. I didn't take a pic of that as I was sooooooooo pissed off!!!! Lol

Anyway, here are a few pics.

The left side is just sanded, right is first cut pass.

That's drivers side after the three cuts

That's the whole thing after the polishes.

Can actually see the reflection of the windows. Don't think it did that before.

So..... overall I managed to make it look better, I'm happier, it's not perfect my any means. But it's better, and I'm ok with the time invested knowing it's gonna get stripped at some point and done "properly". Have to draw the line somewhere.

So I poked at my buddy a bit about either the 6.0 from his truck or 454 from his van. Told him to "help me, help you to help me" lol.

Took him a few hours, typical, but shot back at me with this.

"6.0, no flex plate, what you see is what you get, $700"

I asked a few questions like year, who's was it etc. Haven't gotten a response yet. Didn't think you ask if it's a Lq4 or Lq9, not that that really matters toooooooooo much to me.

From what I can see, obviously no harness, coil.packs, throttle body, ECM or accessory drive.

I see them listed on Facebook for $1500 min and up. But those are usually pretty complete. Sure I'll have to hit a yard for the rest of it, plus a transmission. Although my buddy has offered his 4L60e up for basically nothing.
But the one offering this up also has a TBI 454/4L80 combo sitting in a van. Maybe I can con him out of that as well! Lol

I'm almost thinking this is as close to "falling in my lap" as it's gonna get! Lol

Thoughts or concerns???
