I let it run in the parking lot while I was in the gym for about 45 minutes. I came back to it and it was still cooling well. It was a little cooler today at 95 degrees instead of 100, and not as much sun. However, I do believe the insulation has made a difference.

I haven’t modified the clutch thermal spring yet, I will hopefully this week.
I need to climb around under my 97 at some point and insulate the rest of that rear hose. I only insulated it to where it routes above the frame last summer, it was over 100F at 2:00 AM at the time, not fun weather to do work in laying on your back on concrete. Going to be a challenge there because the hose sits between the frame and body. That being said I feel like insulating it will a make a difference because the rear suction hose goes all the way to the rear bumper, wraps around the frame then goes into the body to the rear evaporator all the way in the rear of the driverside of the van. That suction hose alone is probably 20 ft long and it does get cold enough to make the split loom sweat its whole length on a humid day. That has to be pulling in a fair amount of heat that insulating it will help prevent.

I just finished modifying the thermal spring position on the fan clutch. Took some scrap metal I had, bent/notched it out to reposition the clutch valve so it fully engages sooner. I will 100% sacrifice mileage in order to stay cold. Once the summer is over I’ll swap in my original fan…but for these 100 degree days, I need extreme cooling.

I’ll install it tomorrow after I let the JB weld cure. I’ll post my findings.

I was chasing a problem with the high side pressure going over 400. Turned out there was a orfice tube in the condenser when it should not have been there. On suburbans the tube goes in the "Y" of the liquid line.

When I was testing with my clutch fan, it did not take much in the movement to have the fan kick on at 180* F

Did it still cool well even with two orfice tubes? Is high pressure the only symptom?

It has crossed my mind that the replacement condenser has an orfice tube in it. My AC guy is the one that replaced it, he didn’t remember when I asked him.

It cooled somewhat decent. As pressure would go up at higher rpm, cooling would get worse.

My Tahoe had very little cooling with the 2nd orifice tube in place when I first got it. The evaportor cores were sharing the refrigerant volume meant for the front core only. It would get down to 60-65F out of the front dash vents when it should have cooled mid-high 30s.

Maybe I don’t have two orfice tubes then…going down the road it’ll get to the 30s-40s. Extended hot idle is my problem.

Still haven’t put it back together, I’ve been dealing with a kidney stone as of yesterday morning lol. I’ll have it back together maybe tomorrow or day after hopefully.
