Hello, I'm probably the oldest guy on the forum. I have been building sbcs since 1971. My first was in a 1962 chev panel ex ncr service truck I bought from my employer. It had a 235 six and at first I just upgraded it with a threespeed with overdrive. The ac still worked ok. I used it as a hunting/fishing wagon including hauling a flatbottom 10 ft boat on a rack on top. One of the ncr guys was from ok and was into hotrodding the sbc more than me, I had a 69 mach1 at the time along with a 58 beetle I had made into a pickup in about 68. It has a isky hyd lifter cam installed about 1970. The co-worker swapped me a 327 with fuelie pistons that was in his ncr panel, I had to move the motors as part of the deal. That motor had so much taper I guess that it cracked the piston skirts one at a time, so I got pretty good at changing pistons out, after about the 7th one the other one was on the same bank I diid them both and finally had all new pistons and rings with bearings. My next was a new 76 3/4 siverado 4x4 that I put a 350hp gm cam in with new lifters. No breakin no problems. The next was a j200 jeep with a 1979 crate with the 350hp cam but a isky dual port manifold and a 600 holley, headers, I still have this one but it is now a 400 tranny after trying the jeep 3sp, a saginaw 4spd with overdrive and then the 400, the way it is now. Onto scouts for awhile then the 86 k5 with the ramjet programmed by az speed and marine and converted from mefi3 to mefi4 with the o2 sensor. I have had a 91 3/4 ton 4x4 burb for probably 15 yrs and I think it dropped a ex seat pushing it too hard wot on a long grade on 35 trying to get around all the nafta trucks. I have a 1979 k5 with a 65k miles 400 that I am going to re-ring and re-seal with new bearings and pump that I have bought some afr 195 chinese casting heads, a howards cl-110315-10 retrofit roller cam and a edlebrock pro-flo center tb type intake efi system. The ed intake will probably not talk to the 4l80 but maybe I can figure it out, the 1991 4l80e was the first and maybe simpler on its inputs. Anyway I do have the ebl/ecu and tuning package and I think that will drive the edle system and the 4l80e. I also have coming the 2001 express van complete wiring and 411 ecu from a ca truck so if I think I am up for the challenge I will try the 411 tuning.
