Still waiting on axle but I did drive it across my neighborhood to go clean up my shooting range, and therefore was obligated to take a few pics.

I also received the new bumper step pad that is for the trucks and fills the gap under the tailgate but realized that it doesn’t fit the Tahoe bumper. After pricing out the cost of a new truck bumper, paint, and repairing the bedside damage it will be much cheaper for me to buy the tube bender I’ve been wanting. Then cut the bedsides up and do a high clearance tube bumper, similar to what’s on my ranger, but 1.75” or 2” round not square. Then I can redo the bumpers on my ranger as well and shed a bunch of weight.

Speaking of the Ranger I went for a ruck hike Sunday and the parking lot has the perfect stump to flex on so I stretch those deaver springs out. They always impress me with their ability to flex.

Best thought process, ever. I need to try that on my wife next time I need to replace a bumper. I've been wanting a tubing bender forever.

Progress has been made! Picked the axle up yesterday and started tearing this thing down around noon today. Got the old axle out quick, I think the slowest part was disconnecting the parking brake cable from inside the drums. Or maybe it was figuring out how to unload this beast solo.

Anyway new axle is up and bolted in. Things I didn’t expect were that I had to swap yokes, not too difficult. Also I welded the driver side shock mount to the front of the axle not the back like a real moron. Won’t be too difficult to chop off and relocate tho.

Now I need to order the following.
-Shocks
-New brake hardline line for H2 axle
-New brake soft lines for H2
-Cheap break in oil for gears
-Synthetic long term oil for gears
-New lube locker gasket (current one is pretty old)
-Brake fluid
-Bump stops

Probably more stuff I’m forgetting too but that should get it moving under its own power again.

Also good news the new axle might be wide enough that I don’t need spacers at all in the back. Before it had 3” chonkie bois just to match the front but it looks decent so far.

Had a few hours to throw at this today and made decent progress. Hard lines are made, drive shaft bolted up, shock mount relocated, rotors and calipers mounted and the flex lines fit, I’m just waiting in banjo bolts to arrive. I think I have everything done except shocks and the banjo bolts plus bleeding the brakes of course. I ever got the locker all wired up with an actual Eaton E locker wiring harness. Only downside is the button is too big to go where I wanted so for now it’s a dangly Dude.

I did pull the truck out for a quick test drive and went straight to the sandy spot in my yard to try out the locker. It works! And buried itself quickly in 2wd, but crawled right out in 4x4. Also reinstalled the front skid plate, and a new lower valence with all new hardware.

I also ordered just 1” spacers for the front because the new axle is wide enough to delete the 3” spacers I had back there completely and I think if I drop from 1.5” to 1” in the front it will be nearly perfect. Not quite pushing outside the fender flares with the 255/70/17s but when it eventually gets 285s it will be exactly where I want it.

Well I got the banjo bolts in and get the brakes bled! Also pulled the front spacers off and thought the fitment looked good so I went for a test drive. I was wrong….. I thought the bit of grinding noise was the rust being worn off the rotors since they had been sitting around for a few years. It actually ended up being the front wheels rubbing the UCA ever so slightly. No idea how I didn’t notice it when I put the wheels and tires on. Glad I only went a few hundred feet.

But the trucks good enough for a trip to work tomorrow, I need to bleed the brakes more, my help (my wife) was very much not into being a helper so my bleeding session was cut short.

Bled the brakes again and have driven it another two days, it’s great! Really excited about this truck, it’s gonna be an awesome part time daily driver. I actually had to go way across town today and wished I had this truck highway ready because I’d have driven it instead of my Tahoe. Tahoe is great but it’s a little too “sporty” for bombed out downtown roads.

Really all I’m missing to make it highway ready is shocks, an alignment, and another tank or two of gas through it with no issues to prove to me it’s reliable. I did just finally order shocks for it, can’t wait to feel the difference with these. Wheel Every Weekend is such a great shop to deal with and had a great price on these.

Just got back from a vacation and had to mow so I moved all the trucks onto the driveway. Luckily they all started but I found my gmc mirror couldn’t handle the heat. You guys usually just use window glue to repair this?
