That's a heavy-duty truck starter. Look at the flange at the rear--bolts to the bellhousing, not to the block.

The brace would go on the same stud as the front end of the heat shield. Nut, brace, heatshield, starter.
So to be clear, the brace you linked will work with my heatshield setup? The angles are what had me confused

while I'm here, what is that bolt hole on the block just above the transmission dipstick tube mount, I have an extra bolt from recent activity..lol

Bolt hole above the bracket for the trans dipstick is one of several accessory-mounting holes in the end of the cylinder head. In this case, the hole is probably unused at the back of the right head, but may be used at the front of the left head.

I've bolted spark-plug looms to those holes. GM may have some use for them in certain applications--a bracket for the AIR system plumbing, perhaps.

That upper stud the heat shield is attached to is longer to accommodate the angled brace. It's the same depicted in the parts drawing. See how it's mounted in this photo.

Yeah I get that.... Just wanted to be sure. Thanks...
So you have seen my first pic above and agree it will work? Little hammer action?
