I don't know if the Duramax qualifies as a GM diesel since it was a joint design with Isuzu.

I think most development was originally done by Isuzu, but GM owns the engine and production, and it's installed in GM trucks. I'd say that disregarding it as a "GM diesel" is looking at it closer than I understood the original comment to mean.

I think they're affiliated with each other - maybe GM owns Isuzu? The Chevy LUV truck's engine was made by them too.

The whole LUV was Isuzu. I've always been disappointed that GM didn't build our 4x4s with front drive being disconnected at the wheels, like a live axle, like they did with the IFS LUVs. Shifting in and out of 4wd was immediate on my 81 LUV, but I have to wait on my manual transfercase 99.

Yep, chevy Luv is a rebranded Isuzu; I think most of the early small trucks were but i don't remember exactly. My dad back in the day had a sbc stroker swapped chevy luv for street racing. rebuilding my dads old chevy luv for him is for sure one of my life goals.
