The one @PlayingWithTBI mentioned has a resistor on the cable. I think it is moveable as well on the USB end of the cord.
Yeah, it comes with a jumper that will give you 10K Ohms, Short out pins A - B (for "paper clip mode" or setting IAC), or leave it open.

I dunno but the only GM ecm I talk to is a TPI w/MAF (Tuned Port Injection w/ Mass Air Flow [sensor]) so maybe I'm the weirdo that needs the resistor.
Yes, the 10K resistor is for TPI or some earlier TBIs but, GMt 400s don't use it. It'll cause higher Idle RPMs like @scott2093 mentioned.

So, if I get the cable you previously linked it would have the 10K ohm resistor already? So if I understand correctly the resistor and such the cable will put the truck into diagnostic mode, That would mean the only difference is really that the truck would idle worse, but I could drive with the tuner connected it would just be in "field service mode" right?

I don't think you'll need the 10k in circuit if I'm understanding correctly. And actually, the settings for all the tbi trucks in my 1320 adapter shows to keep the resistor out of circuit. But who knows...

From what I've heard is you need the resistor for the ECM to start streaming data on older vehicles. It's used for viewing live data and data logging. If you buy that cable it gives you the option to use the resistor or not. If you decide to get a windows based computer you will have to cable already so if it were me I'd buy the cable. I'm using that same cable and have no complaints with its performance. I kinda wish they would have used a switch for the resistor and jumper rather than the little socket piece that you remove and reinstall to switch the functions but it works fine. Just have to be careful it doesn't fall out and you lose it if you're tossing the cable around.

No, you don't need to use the resistor in our case, it'll stream data all the time with Key On, Engine Off or running. You just use the jumper to short pins A - B so, with KOEO you'll see the diagnostic flashes, starting with 12. You can also use it to reset the IAC and min idle screw. Here's a .pdf on how to do that...

Alright so now im confused because of conflicting statements, I think I need the resistor, but if I dont, why wouldnt the other cable I have work, and also the ALDL cable linked comes with the resistor but its detachable?

That is the question.... may be some Innova specific pinouts only their scanners use goofing things up?? idk...
I mean, you could always rig a jumper with a 10k resistor across the A&B terminals to try but, it appears it won't do anything for your cable situation if I had to guess....

Alright guys, I just ordered the cable from obd diagnostics, it should come in 3-5 days and hopefully it will work, after that I will need help understanding what the live data numbers should be.

Yes, it plugs in 3 different positions for zero Ohms, 10K Ohms, and open, like you pulled it out completely, that position is simply a place to park it when not in use. Make sense?

Okay that makes a lot more sense now, thank you. Hopefully the cable comes Monday and I can see what is going on. Truck started to misfire on startup again and surges a bit when Im barely on the gas and now I noticed a ton of carbon in my passenger exhaust, maybe from the misfire.
