It really depends on where you want your power. A heavy truck, suv or van, I want the Gen 1 small blocks torque or a big blocks torque. 99.5% of the time the engine will be under ~4,000 rpm with either engine.
This was a stock internal 8.75:1 350 TBI. Edelbrock 3704 manifold bored to 2", 2" oval open center spacer, 2" marine TBI unit, headers, dual 2.5" exhaust and tuning. Stock camshaft and stock 810 swirl ports. Vortec 5.7L with headers and tuning makes 30-40 hp more. The HD L05 started out at 180 hp and 300 tq at the crankshaft.

This is a LQ4 6.0L before and after tuning. Pulling the same load, the 350 will climb most grades in 3rd and the 6.0L will be in 2nd gear.
